Yin

No haces nada. Yin starts where movement ends. Instead of chaining postures, you settle into one and hold it for three to seven minutes. You do nothing. Time and gravity do the work. Almost everything in your week runs fast; this class runs the other way.
Más allá del músculoPast the muscle
Most styles work muscle. Yin goes to another layer: fascia, ligaments, joints. Those tissues do not answer to a quick pull, they need time and low intensity. That is why the postures are on the floor and why you stay still. You look for the point where you feel something but can still breathe easily, and you stay there while the body gives.
Yin y yangYin and yang
The name comes from Taoism. Yang is the active, the warming: a flow, a Power Vinyasa. Yin is the still, the cooling, the releasing. As a practice, Yin yoga took shape in the West in the late 20th century with teachers like Paulie Zink, Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, who joined the postures to that Taoist idea of balance.
Cómo se sienteHow it feels
The first minutes are hard. Your mind wants to move and there is nowhere to go. Around halfway through the posture something loosens, and that is it. We use bolsters and blankets so the body rests inside the shape. You will want to come out early. Staying is the practice.

In Yin you do not progress by pushing. What opens, opens once you stop forcing it. It feels strange at first, especially coming from practices where progress is measured in effort. Later it becomes the part of the week you miss most.
¿Para quién es?Who is it for?
For everyone. Especially if you live in a hurry, if your practice is all yang and needs a counterweight, or if you need to stop. No flexibility or experience required. What is required is resisting the urge to move.
